The Survival CoatFinal Home

Founded by Kosuke Tsumura, Final Home launched in 1994 under the supervision of Issey Miyake. Kosuke Tsumura is a prolific designer and artist who revolutionized functional fashion with his label Final Home. Designed for emergency situations and disasters, his apocalyptic inspired garments have influenced generations and become collectors items amongst today’s youth.

One of our favorite pieces from the Final Home collection is the The Survival Coat. We love it for its form and functionality. A coat created to stuff according to your current interests, mood, environment or weather forecast. Besides this the coat is recyclable. After enjoying it as a fashion item, it can be brought to a Final Home retailer. They will donate it to organizations such as NGO for the benefit of refugees or disaster victims. About its creative process Kosuke Tsumura writes:

"This nylon coat came about from me pondering this question. Its concept is “a cloth which can be adapted according to need”. For example, to protect against the cold, you can put newspapers in the pockets, or if you equip it with survival rations and a medical kit, it becomes a valuable cloth when taking refuge."

The name “FINAL HOME” was first given to this particular garment, and then it became their brand name - it equates to the idea of it being the “ultimate shelter".
