Marni is known for its expert use of print, color and shape. Over the past seasons the brand has headed into creative activism with creative director Francesco Risso taking inspiration from art and literature to create stories he finds liberating. The resulting collections are eclectic, joyful, sustainable and draw unexpected connections between realms of fact and fiction.

For Marni's Spring/Summer 2021 offering Risso's creative battle scene took place close to home. “Lockdown felt very oppressive. I have a big dog, and whenever I’d go out, I had police sending me back home. It was strange, bad.” Not being able to utilize its usual creative spaces left him and his team “making things at home with blankets and curtains, and dyeing things in bathtubs". The result is a hot hands-on collection full of grungy, unraveled, splattered, crinkled de- and reconstructed pieces. A collection with a sense of unbridled freedom, a sex bomb waiting to explode.
